Richard W. Gilmore, 62,
of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. There will be a celebration of Richard's life from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; a son, Brad Shanklin (Camille) of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Carly Gilmore of Florida; two brothers, Jack (Judy) of Iowa City and Dan (Patty) of Marion; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard was born June 14, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lee and Geneva Dotson Gilmore. He married Jean M. Atkinson on April 18, 2015.
Richard was a mail handler for the U.S. Post Office for over 22 years, retiring in 2016. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, listening to rock music and playing his drums. Richard was an accomplished gymnast and in years past put on trampoline shows.
He was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. A memorial fund has been established.
