Reddick, Richard 'Dick' J.
Richard “Dick” J. Reddick, 83 of Fairfax, formerly of Iowa City, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Heritage Care Center in Cedar Rapids, following a long battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Doug Williams officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Richard Reddick Memorial Fund or to St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids.
Richard was born April 5, 1927, in Keosauqua, Iowa, the son of VP and Anna Cocherell Reddick. He was a graduate of Fairfield High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a signal lamp operator in occupied Japan. Following military service, Richard attended Parson College and was a Fairfield police officer for two years. On June 14, 1953, Richard married Marjorie DeBruyn in Colfax, Iowa.
Richard was a member of the Iowa State Patrol for 33 years, retiring in 1984 as captain. Following retirement, he was head of security with the U.S. Marshall's Office in Cedar Rapids.
Richard was a member of the Iowa State Police Association, the Retired State Peace Officers Association, the Iowa Association of Chief of Police and Peace Officers, Fairfax American Legion and a 50 year member of the Fairfield Masonic Lodge. Richard enjoyed fishing, reading and traveling. He was a Civil War buff.
Richard is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Fairfax, and their three daughters and seven grandchildren, Deb (David) Oldakowski of Shellsburg and their children Jason (Billie Jo), Craig (Lisa) and Eric, Becky (Jerry) Hobart of Cedar Rapids and their children Michael and Anna, and Nancy (Charl) Kroeze of Iowa City and their children Rachael and Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael; and brother, Ivan.
