Buffets Restaurants, corporate parent of Ryan's Grill, Buffet and Bakery in northeast Cedar Rapids, is not planning to close any restaurants in Iowa at this time.
The Eagan, Minn.-based company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this week, released a list Friday of 45 locations it closed on Friday and 36 additional restaurants that will close on Saturday.
Buffets Restaurants operates almost 500 locations in 38 states under names such as Old Country Buffet, HomeTown Buffet, Ryan's Grill, Buffet and Bakery and Tahoe Joe's Famous Steakhouse. The company said the 81 restaurants it planned to close were underperforming locations.
In addition to Cedar Rapids, Ryan's has locations in Burlington and Clive. Old Country Buffet, which closed a restaurant last month in Coral Ridge Mall, has a location in Des Moines.
Buffets Restaurants has indicated it may close additional locations if it cannot negotiate more favorable lease rates with landlords.
