Snyder, Wendell P.
Wendell P. Snyder, 89, of West Branch, formerly of Iowa City, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, on his birthday at the Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center in West Branch. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Thursday until services at the funeral home.
Memorial donations can be made in his memory to Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center.

Wendell Preston Snyder was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of William J. and Florence E. (Preston) Snyder. He attended schools in Belle Plaine and later in Atlantic, where he graduated from Atlantic High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served four years receiving the Purple Heart and Silver Star for his service.
Wendell was united in marriage to Lucille Evelyn Craig on Sept. 14, 1945, in Atlantic. The couple lived in Atlantic, had farmed in Hartwick, Iowa, for nearly 15 years, before moving to Iowa City in 1965. Here Wendell worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, retiring in 1987 from the Housekeeping Department as supervisor.
His family includes his daughter, Edith Snyder of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Joann Snyder of Council Bluffs; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille; a sister, Nadine Dudek; and a brother, William Snyder.
