Snyder, Marie E.
Funeral services for Marie E. Snyder, 90, of Atrium Village, Hills, formally of Kalona, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kalona United Methodist Church, Kalona, with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona. Marie died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Atrium Village following a lengthy illness. A general memorial fund has been established.
Marie was born May 15, 1920, in Burr Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Olive (Olson) Wicks. She graduated from Burr Oak High School. On June 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Paul Snyder in Muscatine. Marie was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church and had volunteered at the Pleasantview Home, Kalona, for many years. Marie's life centered around her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting antiques with her husband, Paul.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Marjorie Garlow of Iowa City, Gary (Joan) Snyder of Iowa City, and Eldon (Mary) Snyder of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Christine Schomberg of Iowa City, Sherri (Michael Glackin) Schomberg of Iowa City, Lori Schomberg of Irving, Texas, Derek Snyder of Iowa City, Emily (Verland Pierson) Snyder of Las Vegas, Nev., and Patrick (Megan) Snyder of Iowa City, three great-grandchildren, Emma Jean and Hailey Elizabeth Glackin and Harry Pierson; one brother, Marvin (Virginia) Wicks of Harmony, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Glorianne Wicks of Decorah, and Joan Wicks of Cresco.
Preceding Marie in death were her parents; husband, Paul; son-in-law, James Garlow; and three brothers, Leonard, Marion and Harley Wicks.
