Royal D. Snyder, 90, of Marion, formerly of Wyoming, Iowa, died March 18, 2015, at Willow Gardens Care Center, where he resided for three weeks. A gathering of family and friends: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at
Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. at Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa.
Royal was born May 15, 1924, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Royal D. Snyder Sr. and Emma (Kalouse) Snyder. Once graduating from Wyoming High School in 1942, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands and Italy from 1943 to 1945. He was blessed to be married to G. Eileen French for 37 years. For 31 years, Royal was employed by the United States Postal Service, retiring Dec. 31, 1988.
Royal enjoyed many things, but in particular, fishing, traveling and playing cards. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Marion, and the American Legion for 69 years.
He is survived by his children, Wayne (Barbara) Snyder of Maryville, Mo., and Jennifer Atkinson of Colesburg; four grandchildren, Christy (Greg) Bartlett of Austin, Texas, David (Angela) Snyder of Hendersonville, Tenn., Stephanie (David) Ingles of Colesburg and Aaron (Jenny) Atkinson of East China, Mich.; eight great-grandchildren, Austin and Melissa Bartlett, Alexandria and Sidney Snyder, Cooper and Carson Ingles, Parker and Reese Atkinson; special friend, Janet Merta of Marion; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Eileen, on Dec. 13, 1987.
Memorials are suggested to the Camp Wyoming General Fund, 9106 42nd Ave., Wyoming, IA 52362.
