Ellen Theresa Babich, 81,
of Marion, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. A parish vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Ellen was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Highland, Ill., the daughter of Elmer and Theresa (Stoff) Lebegue. She was a 1954 graduate of Highland High School and then attended nursing school. On Feb. 21, 1959, in Highland, Ellen was united in marriage to Erwin "Joe" Babich. She was employed at Life Investors, Pediatric Associates, and then at Linn County Services for People with Disabilities, until retiring in 1996. Ellen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was involved in the Women's Connection and was one of the founders of the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She volunteered and helped with Knights of Columbus, Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. Ellen took care of everyone she knew. She loved to do outdoor work, especially in her flower garden. Ellen enjoyed traveling to warm weather, crocheting, and all her grandchildren and their activities.
She is survived by her children, Jo (Robert) Joy of Des Moines, Terri (Eddie) Hoag of Tennessee, Nicole (Scott) Nelson of Marion and John Babich of Marion; 11 grandchildren, Paul, Nathan, John, Joshua, Mary, Peter, Lori, Alyssa, Seth, Jacob and Caleb; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jack; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Maggie.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; brother, Richard Lebegue; and sister, Mary Ann Korte.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ellen's memory.
