Calvert, Ronald M.
Ronald M. Calvert, 77, of 276 Drinkward St. NW, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where there will be a prayer vigil at 2 p.m. and Masonic service at 3 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; son, Richard of Waterloo; two stepsons, Casey (Angela) Jones of Cedar Rapids and Barry (Mary) Pickart of Peosta: two stepdaughters, Kelly (Donnie Mull) Hook of Onslow and Chris (Jeff) Griffith of Derby, Kan.; and six grandchildren, Mitchell, Lindsey, Kelsey, Abby, Aryn and Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a stepson, Brett Pickart.
Ron was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Richard and Virginia (Martin) Calvert. He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1952 and attended Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Mo. He married Beverly Michael on March 3, 1977, in Marion. Ron was an electronics specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration and retired from there after 35 years of service.
He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Fideltas Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, El Kahir Shrine and past president of The National Association of Retired Government Employees. He proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid golfer, hunter, especially deer, and was a great joke teller.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
