DEREK JON VAN MIDDLESWORTH

Derek Jon Van Middlesworth, 39, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with celebrant Julie Freese. Visitation be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Gary and Carol Van Middlesworth of Cedar Rapids; brother, Jared (Beth) Van Middlesworth of Bettendorf; nieces, Kate and Abbey and Bonnie (Cliff) Meyer and their children, Chad, Keili and Lari; stepgrandmother, Janet Van Middlesworth; aunts, Sandy Van Middlesworth and Dani Corely and family; and Greg Clift.
Derek was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Lola Van Middlesworth and Ken and Ruth Ludwig.
Derek was born Oct. 25, 1978, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to his parents, Gary and Carol. Derek enjoyed bowling, taking walks and taekwondo.
He was a fan of baseball, the Kernels and the St. Louis Cardinals, and also a fan of the RoughRiders. Derek liked to play games, including Aggravation and Jeopardy. Derek was a caring person, enjoyed life and celebrated friends and family. Abbey and Kate held a special place in his heart.
