David Van Houten, 65, of Ely, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at his home after a short illness. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his son Jordon Van Houten, Cedar Rapids; sister, Linda Catlett, Cedar Rapids; brother, Kevin (Mary) Van Houten, Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Marilyn Van Houten; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wesley; brother, Don; and sister, Carol.
David Duane Van Houten was born Jan. 30, 1953, in Cedar Rapids to parents Carl and Winnifred Van Houten. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School in 1971. His working life included home milk delivery for Dows Dairy, delivering lumber for BCI Lumber and finally retiring from Croell Redi-Mix in 2018. His favorite times included hunting, fishing and camping. David was an avid metal worker and liked to attend tractor pulls. He volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club and Camp Courageous. David will be missed by his family and friends.
