Van Steenhuyse, Gerald G.
Gerald G. Van Steenhuyse died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo at the age of 84 years. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Father Joseph Roost will preside. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
Gerald was born Sept. 13, 1927, near Norway, Iowa, the son of Walter E. and Louise Clara (Simmons) Van Steenhuyse. He received his BA degree in accounting from the University of Iowa in 1949. Gerald was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Giblin on June 11, 1951, in Williamsburg. He worked for Arthur Anderson from 1949-1953. Gerald owned and operated Burg Implement in Williamsburg from 1959-1979. After retiring he farmed with his son-in-law, Gene Doehrmann, from 1979 -2000.
Gerald enjoyed playing Bridge, golfing and was an avid Hawkeye and Cub fan. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, life member of Knights of Columbus, former treasurer of Sport Hill Country Club, Williamsburg Community Club and president of the Williamsburg Area Development Club.
He is survived by six children, James (Peggy) Van Steenhuyse of Scottsdale, Ariz., Janice Doehrmann (Mike Malloy) of Williamsburg, Susan (Andrew) Anello of Orland Park, Ill., John (Donna) Van Steenhuyse of Grayslake, Ill., Larry (Leanne) Van Steenhuyse of Danville, Calif., and Paul Van Steenhuyse of Bettendorf; 13 grandchildren, Matthew (Mayra) Doehrmann, Ryan (Amy) Doehrmann, Ross Doehrmann, Kelly Van Steenhuyse, Christopher (Lori) Anello, Nicholas (Debbie) Anello, Michael Anello, Scott Van Steenhuyse, Robby Van Steenhuyse, Erin Van Steenhuyse, Alex Van Steenhuyse, Holly Van Steenhuyse and Felecia Van Steenhuyse; six great-grandchildren, Madox, Gavin, Layla, Lillie, Noah and Viviana; a sister, Rita (Ed) Bower of Williamsburg; and a brother, Earl Van Steenhuyse of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Frazier; two brothers, Leo and Ray Van Steenhuyse; and a son-in-law, Gene Doehrmann.
Memorials are for St. Mary's Cemetery or Marengo Memorial Hospital.
