VanAntwerp, Arlo J. 'Dutch'
Arlo J. “Dutch” VanAntwerp, 77, of Atkinson, Ill., passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo, Ill. According to his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or services. Vandemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Geneseo, Ill., is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be left to Henry County Humane Society or Friends of the Hennepin Canal.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda (Randy) Vandersnick, Geneseo, Ill.; two sons, Tim (Lynda) VanAntwerp, Kewanee, Ill., and Tony VanAntwerp and special friend Jodie, Atkinson, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Sharon VanAntwerp, Atkinson; eight grandchildren, Brooke Vandersnick, Bart Vandersnick, Kelsey (Duane) Smith, Kale (Katie) VanAntwerp, Allyson Gish, Ian VanAntwerp, Joycelyn VanAntwerp and Tanner VanAntwerp; two great-grandchildren, Kaden VanAntwerp and Tessa Smith; and two brothers, Dick (Reva) VanAntwerp, Anamosa, and Maynard (Colleen) VanAntwerp, Morley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Terry and Russell VanAntwerp.
Dutch was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Anamosa, the son of Mark and Cecile (Parmenter) VanAntwerp. He was a graduate of Morley High School. Dutch proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Shirley Clementz on Sept. 1, 1951, in Anamosa. Dutch was self-employed as an independent carpenter in the Atkinson, Ill., area for many years. He enjoyed fishing, playing rolle bolle, the outdoors and gardening. Dutch loved his dogs, Midnight and Tiny.
