Landuyt, Winifred K. Duchacek
Winifred K. Duchacek Landuyt, 88, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton, with Father Ardel Barta as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Winifred was born Oct. 26, 1924, in Garrison, Iowa, the daughter of James Edward and Nora (Stritch) Merchant. She graduated from Garrison High School.
On Jan. 29, 1946, Winifred was united in marriage with Lester Duchacek at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1966. She married Victor Landuyt in Flint Hill, Mo., on July 1, 1970. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2013.
Winifred was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown and the Altar and Rosary Society. She belonged to Big Grove Homemakers, Bethany Club and several card clubs. She enjoyed dancing and collecting Precious Moments figurines.
Winifred is survived by three daughters, Dixie (Gary) Johnson of Frazier Park, Calif., Debbie (Doug) White of Vinton and Deanna (Jerry) Daugherty of Coralville; three stepchildren, Vicki (Bill) Thorman of Blairstown, Kay (Larry Robinson) Landuyt of Robins and Patti Landuyt of Belle Plaine; one stepdaughter-in-law, Karen Landuyt of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mary (Norman) Walker of Vinton; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; four brothers; one sister; five half brothers; four half sisters; stepson, James Landuyt; and stepgrandson, Christopher Landuyt.
A memorial fund has been established.
Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home is caring for Winifred and her family.
