Schulte, Roland (Sonny)
A celebration of life for Roland (Sonny) Schulte will be held Saturday, March 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway, with the Rev. Brian M. Dellaert officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Norway. Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Michael's Parish Center, followed by a Catholic Foresters rosary at 7 p.m. Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine is charge of arrangements.
Sonny died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Evergreen Estates in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Sonny was born Feb. 17, 1929, the son of Adam C. and Agnes (Brecht) Schulte in Norway, Iowa, where he resided all his life. After attending Norway schools he helped on the family farm, owned and operated Sonny Schulte Trucking, worked at Amana Refrigeration and retired from Midland Forge.
He was united in marriage to Connie (Reynolds/Cox) on May 22, 1972. He is survived by his wife; stepdaughters, Rosemary (Garry) O'Rear of Cedar Rapids, Cathy (Rex) Maile of Atkins, Cindy (Randy) Forsyth of Vinton, Debbie (Keith) Schmuecker of Watkins, Vicki (Rick) Hergert of Amana and Margaret Chapman of Marion; sisters, Shirley (Ron) Walter of Cedar Rapids and Mary Jane (Ed) Gibney of Norway; sisters-in-law, Betty (Ed) Schulte of Norway and Dorothy (Jim) Schulte of Norway; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Orville and wife Nadine, Ed and Jim; and sisters, Marlys and husband Harold Butz and Helen and husband Walter Zweigart.
Sonny enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
