Schulte, Sylvester F. 'Alec'
Sylvester F. “Alec” Schulte died March 31, 2010. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway, with Father Jack McClure C.PP.S. officiating. Burial: St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Michael's Parish Center, with vigil and rosary at 7:30.
Sylvester was born the youngest of 10 children to Frances Walter Schulte and Joseph F. Schulte on Sept. 28, 1917, in rural Watkins, Iowa, and graduated from St. Michael's School in Norway in 1932. Sylvester served in the Alaskan Division of the Air Transportation Command in World War II and was a 60-plus year member of American Legion Post 234 in Norway. On Oct. 23, 1945, he married Celestine Bange at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway, where he claimed a life long membership.
His love for sports, especially baseball, old time music and a good game of euchre never diminished through the years.
Sylvester was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Celestine Dolly; a daughter, Leah; and a son, Jude.
He is survived by sons, Lynn, Loras and Joe; and daughters, Lana, Tracey and Mary. Sylvester is also survived by 14 grandchildren. Lynn and Marilyn Schulte's children: Jennifer, Lance, Leah and Erin Schulte; Lana Merchant's son: Dennis Dixon; Joe and Rita Schulte's children: Adam, Eric, Alicia and Jerad; Tracey and Dean Franzenburg's children: Matthew, Luke and Emily; Mary and Jim Kahle's children: Christian and Courtney; four great-grandchildren: Drew, Roman, Nate and Avery; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are with Brosh Funeral Service, Norway.
