Robert Lawrence Cihla Sr., 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Swisher American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Robert was born May 17, 1945, in Iowa City, the son of John and Myrtle (Derby) Cihla. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 to 1967.
Bob was united in marriage to Carolyn Zachar on Oct. 28, 1967, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Bob had worked at Hy-Vee, Collins, Coe College and at Lindale until his retirement on April 1, 2005. He enjoyed helping people, fishing, occasionally visiting the casino, traveling and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
He was a member of the Swisher American Legion, president of the Strong Family Association, past president of PADS and life member of the Disabled Vet Chapter 10 and St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Bob is survived by his wife of over 47 years, Carolyn; his two children, Shelly (Brian) Teberg and Rob (Julie) Cihla, all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Jenna, Molly, Megan, Rachel and Kegan Teberg and Caleb and Kaitlyn Cihla; his sister, Linda (Ron) Shimek of Shueyville; his beloved dog, Precious; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two grandchildren, Kristen and Kaitlyn Teberg.
