Johnson, Marian R.
Marian R. Johnson, 80, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday June 9, 2010. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, 840 Third Ave. SE, by the Rev. Fred Darbonne. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Howard; sons, Howard and wife Dana, Mike and wife Shelly, and Mark; a sister Margaret of Peoria; and 16 grandchildren who she adored.
Marian was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of John and Sarah Rosenbaum. She married Howard B. Johnson Jr. on June 27, 1953, in Peoria. She graduated from the University of Iowa, with a master's degree in counseling and worked at Franklin Junior High for 20 years as a guidance counselor. She was a long term active member of First Christian Church. Marian was an amazing woman who demonstrated God's love and perseverance through her commitment to her family and choosing joy in all situations. Marian served the Lord through letter ministry and prayer. She loved watching birds from hummingbirds to eagles. Her grandchildren were the absolute joy of her life.
