Larry Ray Lighty, 77, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at Willow Gardens Care Center.
Per Larry's wishes, cremation rites were performed by Cedar Memorial. A private memorial service will take place.
Larry was born April 6, 1938, in Greeley, Iowa, to Raymond and Geraldine (Fairweather) Lighty. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1963. On May 23, 1973, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Worrall at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Phyllis was Larry's helpmate and dedicated caretaker until her death in 2011.
Larry worked as a salesman for Barron Motors and Chief Auto Parts. He retired in 1998. He also owned and operated Prairie Lounge in Prairieburg for 10 years.
Larry was an easygoing man. He enjoyed working and gardening. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by four stepsons, David (Kathy) Long of Wills Point, Texas, Dennis (Shelly) Long of Cedar Rapids, Doug Long of Cedar Rapids and Eric (Sheila) Long of Crawfordsville; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; and brothers, Perry "Junior" and Earl Lighty.
