Redlinger, Robert F. 'Bob'
Robert F. “Bob” Redlinger, 55, of Iowa City, went home to Jesus Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Parkview Evangelical Free Church in Iowa City. Private family graveside services will be held at the cemetery in Marengo. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
Robert Francis Redlinger was born March 16, 1955, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Francis A. and Patricia A. (North) Redlinger. Following graduation from Iowa Valley High School in Marengo in 1973, he went on to earn a degree from Northeast Missouri State University in 1978. He returned to Iowa, moving to Des Moines, where he taught school for three years. Then he earned a medical technology degree from the University of Iowa and later a master's degree in instructional design also at the U of I. In 1983, he began a long career with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, first as a medical technologist and then as an education specialist. During this time he earned his master's degree in instructional design from the University of Iowa. On Sept. 14, 1985, he married Cynthia G. Rice at Parkview Evangelical Free Church, where Bob was involved in small group Bible studies, prayer, teaching and missions outreach. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and gardening.
His family includes his wife, Cindy; daughter, Patty Redlinger and her fiance, Cory McBride, and son, Gerry Redlinger, all of Iowa City; his father, Francis Redlinger of Marengo; sister, Julie Stroback and her husband, Scott, of Coralville, and their daughters, Megan and Christina Stroback; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Vansice of Newton, and her children, Trent, Shelley, Maddy and Sam Vansice and Marcie, Jimmy and Kellen Stewart and Rose Thielen, and her husband, Kert, of Castle Rock, Colo., and their children, Jacob, Joe, Michael, Abigail and Alison Thielen.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia; and grandparents, Michael and Margaret Redlinger and Austin and Gladys North.
A special thank you goes to the doctors, nurses and staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bob's memory.
