Joe Phernetton (Papa), 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by Chaplain Joe Kane. Burial at a later date. Friends may visit with the family after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Joe is survived by his two sisters, Louise (Dave) Kurschner of Barron, Wis., and Margaret (Norm) Engstrom of Rice Lake, Wis.; his brother, Don (Wendy) Phernetton of Cumberland, Wis.; his daughter, Shelley, and her daughter, Chelsea; his son, Joey, and his daughter, Emily; and Joe's significant other and the love of his life, Elizabeth "Betty" Murray, her children, Scott, Mike (Kathy) and Shawn (Ray), and their children, Nick, Grant, Sami, Aly and Teagan, who all were like his own and he loved them all.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Aileen Donovan, Idella Ames and Shirley Swan.
Joe was born on Dec. 1, 1937, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., son of Macy and Marion Phernetton. He worked at MNB Data Processing, which became Banks of Iowa Computer Services (BICS), and introduced Instant Access (ATM) to Iowa. At BICS, Joe worked with a group of very smart, wonderful people.
Life treated me well, thanks to you all, especially you, Elizabeth.
