Truck crashes in farm field creek near Sumner, ending joyride

UPDATE: An Oelwein man has been charged with reckless driving after a crash in a farm field Wednesday that left a female with serious injuries.
Torrey Willie, 29, was driving a pickup in a farm field early Wednesday morning near the intersection of V Avenue and 130th Street south of Sumner, according to the Fayette County sheriff's office. Investigators learned Torrey and several others were 4-wheeling when the pickup went into a creek and collided with an embankment.
Authorities learned about the crash when a female passenger who had been in the pickup arrived at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner around 5 a.m. Wednesday. The other people involved fled the scene and were not around when deputies found the crash site.
According to the sheriff's office, the female passenger had serious injuries to her head and face and was transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Her name has not been released, and her details about her condition were unknown.
The accident remains under investigation.
