RoughRiders double up Lincoln to win regular-season opener, 6-3

LINCOLN, Neb. - Judd Peterson had a pair of goals, and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders won their USHL season opener Friday night over the Lincoln Stars, 6-3, before 4,028 fans at "The Icebox."
The Riders never trailed, getting a goal five minutes into the game from Jason Kalinowski. The first of Peterson's tallies 10 minutes made it 2-0.
Lincoln scored with just two seconds left in the period to make it 2-1, but Peterson scored again in the second to re-establish Cedar Rapids' two-goal edge. The teams traded goals the rest of the way, with Dylan Steman's empty netter with one second remaining providing the final margin.
Andrew Oglevie and Nick Master also scored for the RoughRiders, who had 22 shots on goal. Master finished with a goal and assist and had a plus-minus rating of plus-four.
Defenseman Charlie Curti went an amazing plus-five. Chris Birdsall got the win in net, making 30 saves.
The RoughRiders have their home opener Saturday night at 7:05 against Sioux Falls.
