All right, Iowa, you're 11-0 in football. That's new stuff. How do teams handle being 11-0?
Well, of the 12 FBS teams this decade that took 11-0 records into their final regular-season games, 10 were winners. One of the two losers was beaten on a return of a missed field goal for one of the most-memorable finishes in college football history. The other was a 67-66 game in overtime.
The list:
2010
Auburn —
Won at Alabama, 26-21
Oregon —
Won at Oregon State, 37-20
TCU —
Won at New Mexico, 66-17
2011
Houston —
Won at Tulsa, 48-16
2012
Ohio State —
Won at Michigan, 26-21
Notre Dame —
Won at USC, 22-13
2013
Ohio State —
Won at Michigan, 42-41
Florida State —
Won at Florida, 37-7
Northern Illinois —
Won vs. Western Michigan, 33-14
Alabama —
Lost at Auburn, 34-28
2014
Florida State —
Won vs. Florida, 24-19
Marshall
— Lost vs. Western Kentucky, 67-66 (OT)
Note:
Fresno State was 10-0 when it played its 2013 regular-season finale at San Jose State, and lost, 62-52. Fresno State had a September game at Colorado canceled because of extensive flooding there.
Note:
Of the 10 teams that won to get to 12-0, only four finished their seasons unbeaten. One of the those, 2012 Ohio State, had no postseason because of NCAA sanctions.
