Throughout Allen's adult life, he was known as Neale. Neale was born in Roca, Neb. (suburb of Lincoln) on Oct. 10, 1921. The family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1929. Neale graduated from Franklin High School in 1939. As a young man he answered the nation's call and joined the U.S. Army at the beginning of World War II. He served in England and Europe. During the months of December 1944 through January 1945, he stood a post on the Battle of the Bulge, which was the last major battle of the war in Europe. He was in the U.S. Army for 3 1/2 years. After his separation from the Army at the end of World War II, Neale returned to Cedar Rapids.
In 1945, he walked into Siebke Taylor Jewelry Store on Second Avenue in downtown Cedar Rapids to buy a watch and was waited on by a young clerk named Annabell Harger. They married Feb. 9, 1946. They would live out their lives together until Ann's death 67 years later. Except for four years in Texas, they lived their entire married life in Cedar Rapids. Neale and Ann were members of Cedar Rapids Christian Church.
Neale retired as a supervisor from Quaker Oats in 1987. In retirement, his favorite passtime was playing golf on the local golf courses. He played golf until he was 87 years old.
He is survived by his five children, Amy Weaver of Cedar Rapids, Annette Weaver (Patrick Nolan) of St. Louis, Mo., Andy Weaver of Carlsbad, Calif., Arthur (Susan) Weaver of Cedar Rapids and Allen (Robyn) Weaver of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Sydney Weaver of Grants Pass, Ore., Alexia (Kristian) Garrett of Chicago, Cara Vanderburgh of Marion, Corey Vanderburgh of Webster Groves, Mo., Kim (Mike) Roudabush of Marion and Paige Henderson of Long Beach, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Jacob Roudabush.
