Ira R. Buchler, 78, died peacefully in his sleep at Emerson Point, Iowa City, on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016. He had been a widely published professor of cultural anthropology at the University of Texas, Austin, and retired to Iowa City in 2002 to live near family. A private memorial service is being planned.
