The Iowa Hawkeyes handled No. 15 Illinois in the first set of a Big Ten volleyball match Wednesday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, burning through several set points until finally dispatching the Illini, 30-28.
It was the Hawkeyes' first set victory since a victory Sept. 12 over South Dakota State.
But Illinois wore down Iowa in the next two sets - 25-12, 25-23 - before the Hawkeyes won the fourth set, 25-19, to extend the match.
Illinois won the fifth set, 15-11, to push the Hawkeyes' losing streak to eight matches. Iowa is 8-10 overall and 0-7 in the Big Ten.
