Dec. 4, 2015 5:28 pm
AMES — Two more Toledo assistants have made their way to Ames to join Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell's staff.
Bryan Gasser was named wide receivers coach and Greg Brabenec, Director of Operations, officially joined the Cyclones, the school announced Friday. Both have served in some capacity on Campbell's Rockets staff the last four years.
Gasser was tight ends coach and special teams coordinator from 2014-15 at Toledo and the director of high school relations in 2013. The Ohio Northern alumnus was also a graduate assistant with the Rockets in 2010 and 2012.
'Bryan has a great understanding of our offensive system,' Campbell said in a release. 'He is really one of the great up-and-coming coaches in our business. He is a really good recruiter and he also did a great job with our special teams at Toledo. He is a relentless worker and we are excited to have him.'
Gasser, like other staff members Campbell has assembled on his ISU staff, is a known recruiter. In 2013 he helped Toledo to the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the MAC, according to Rivals.com and Scout.com.
'I've spent five years with Coach Campbell and I have learned so much from him,' Gasser said in the release. 'He's a first-class individual. He's loyal, has passion and will tackle this job with a lot of energy. I am just thrilled to have the opportunity to do something special here at Iowa State, a place that is ready to emerge with all of the support it has.'
Brabenec was at Toledo from 2012-13 as a graduate assistant and Director of Football Operations from 2014-15. He was also a student assistant at Bowling Green from 2007-10 and outside linebackers coach at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in 2011.
'I've known Matt for a really long time and there is no one else in this business like him,' Brabenec said. 'The only reason I got into this business was because of him. I had the opportunity to witness his growth and maturation as a coach, and I am honored to be here at Iowa State to continue working with him.'
Gasser and Brabenec join Lou Ayeni (running backs), Tom Manning (offensive line), D.K. McDonald (cornerbacks), Alex Golesh (tight ends/recruiting coordinator), Tyson Veidt (linebackers), John Kuceyeski (Director of Scouting) and Mitchell Moore (Director of High School Relations) on staff.
Reports indicate Toledo defensive line coach Eli Rasheed is also set to join the Cyclones staff in the same role after seven seasons with the Rockets. UT strength coach Rudy Wade is expected to follow Campbell to Ames as well.
