Janet Kay Strand, 74, of Iowa City, passed away at her home Monday, July 25, 2016, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, at St. Patrick's Church with the Very Reverend Rudolph Juarez officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church with a rosary at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations may be offered to the American Cancer Society, St. Patrick's Chapel of Perpetual Adoration or the Informed Choices Medical Clinic.
Janet was born Dec. 21, 1941, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ruby Lincoln Reed. She moved to Iowa City in 1961, where she married Donald Strand on Sept. 14, 1963.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and served as coordinator for the Iowa City Chapel of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. Janet also was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Iowa City; her five children, Virginia "Ginny" (Evan) Davis of Iowa City, Cheryl (Scott Shrader) McWilliams of North Liberty, Alicia (Lance) Miller of Manchester, Bradley (Shannon) Strand of Iowa City and Eric (Rose) Strand of Iowa City; her siblings, Linda Rice, Jerry (Rita) Reed, Dennis Reed and Gordon (Bonnie) Reed; 11 grandchildren, Andrew (Kelsey), Emily, Joshua, Sarah, Miriam, Charlene, Isabelle, Mara, Cooper, Henry and Otto; and great-grandson, Silas.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Larry; and her sister, Joyce.
