One treated for injuries after two-vehicle collision in Cedar Rapids

An 80-year-old Marion man was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon.
According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 3:09 p.m. Friday emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle personal injury accident at the intersection of Williams Boulevard SW and Dean Road SW.
According to the release, upon arriving on scene emergency personnel determined that a vehicle driven by Nicholas Neipert, 36, of Cedar Rapids had been on Dean Road and attempting to make a left turn northbound onto Williams Boulevard when he 'failed to yield” to a vehicle traveling southbound on Williams driven by Donald Schmidt, 80, of Marion. After the resulting collision, Schmidt was transported to St. Luke's Hospital by Area Ambulance along with a fellow male passenger who appeared uninjured, according to the release. Neipert also appeared to be uninjured and refused treatment on scene, according to the release.
Police say all people involved in the accident had been wearing seat belts at the time of accident.
Emergency responders included Linn County Deputies, along with Area Ambulance, Fairfax Fire Department, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department, according to the release.
The incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
