LEROY ERNEST STENERSON
Marion
LeRoy Ernest Stenerson, 87, of Marion, Iowa, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at his home. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at First Baptist Church, Marion, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jerry Springston and LeRoy's grandson, the Rev. Jeremiah Davis. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
LeRoy graduated from Marion High School in 1949. He married Jeanne Ann Harms on Dec. 31, 1950, at the Presbyterian Church in Monticello, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Gary, Mike and Deb. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Marion where he served as moderator, a trustee and high school Sunday school teacher. LeRoy was proud that several of his students became ministers and one became a missionary.
He retired in 1990 from Rockwell Collins after 38 years as an industrial engineer. For 17 years, LeRoy and Jeanne delivered Meals on Wheels. He also volunteered at Habitat for Humanity. LeRoy was the first one to lend a hand to those in need. He also was an overall handyman, fixer-upper and a "Jack of all trades."
LeRoy will be remembered as a godly Christian man, who was devoted to his church, wife of nearly 68 years, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved woodworking, traveling, camping, fishing in the Colorado mountains and spending time with his family and friends. Trips to Europe to celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary and a church mission trip to Alaska were among the long list of memorable events.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children, Mike (Dana) Stenerson of Calera, Ala., Deb Davis of Loveland, Colo., and daughter-in-law, Gail Stenerson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Lorene Burrows of Yorba Linda, Calif.; sister-in-law, Barbara (Stenerson) Brackett; grandchildren, Michelle (Anthony) Webb, Kari (Dan) Eckman, Matt (Robin) Stenerson, Kristi (Kris) Emick, Kristian Stenerson, Courtney Stenerson, Jordan Stenerson, Robert Piszczek, the Rev. Jeremiah (Tricia) Davis and Nathan (Alicia) Davis; and great-grandchildren, Conner and Caden Webb, Jackson, Brantley, Dylan and Danielle Eckman, Abby and Emily Stenerson, Mya and Ethan Emick, Ezekiel, Levi, Zoe and Naomi Davis, and Amelia Davis. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and unquestioning belief in God and His plan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Reuben Stenerson; father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Leta Harms; son, Gary Stenerson; son-in-law, Don Davis; sister, Lenore Ransier; brother, Lynn Stenerson; brothers-in-law, Larry Burrows, Don Harms, Billy Harms, Richard Harms, Ray Godlevsky and Bill Ransier; and sisters-in-law, Betty Godlevsky and Ellen Harms.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, Marion, Iowa, or Hospice of Mercy.
