Switzer, Jack
Jack Switzer's 79-year journey here ended Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at his home following a long battle with cancer. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. The Rev. Barb Krueger will officiate at the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home in Anamosa. Interment will be at Green Center Cemetery, rural Morley.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Ruth; two sons: Jeff (Barb) and their children, Brock and Bryce, of Anamosa; and Jed (Jenny) of Anamosa, and his daughter, Brittany (Chauncey) Raue, and their boys, Waylon and Isaac, of Walker; a brother, Richard of Anamosa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty Smith.
Jack was born July 21, 1932, in Morley, Iowa, the son of Mervin and Laura (Hora) Switzer. Jack received his education at the Morley consolidated school, graduating in the class of 1950. He served his country in the Army from 1953 to 1955 and was a member of the American Legion in Mechanicsville for 46 years.
Jack and Ruth Vernon were united in marriage June 3, 1956, at the Forest Chapel Church, rural Anamosa. He worked as a carpenter with his brother building and remodeling many homes in Jones and Cedar counties.
Jack played minor league baseball for the Wyoming and Stanwood teams to list a few. He was instrumental in forming Little League Baseball in Morley when his boys were young. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He especially enjoyed attending their school and sporting events.
Jack will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
