Kennedy, Dorothy Mae
Dorothy Mae Kennedy, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Survivors include her daughter, Rhonda (Dan) Alaria of Lodi, Calif.; stepdaughter, Linda Godbe of Canada; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Erma Lam of Springville and Betty Hoose of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Norma Hoge of Denver, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; a brother, Carroll Hoge; and stepdaughter, Paula J. Clark.
Dorothy was born May 25, 1920, the daughter of Adna J. and Marie (Hall) Hoge in Springville. She attended school in Viola and boarding school in Barnsville, Ohio. Dorothy received her RN certification at St. Luke's School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. She married Paul D. Kennedy in Pasadena, Calif. He died June 3, 1993.
Dorothy served with the U.S. Army as a nurse during World War II from 1945-1946. She worked as a nurse at several hospitals. She was a member of the American Nurses Association.
The outdoor life was high on her list of enjoyment, especially the northwest states where she and her husband spent much of their free time hunting and fishing.
Dorothy will be remembered for her outgoing, caring, and sometimes feisty spirit.
