Delano F. Turner, 82, of Myrtle Creek, Ore., formerly of Vinton, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, in Myrtle Creek. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Myrtle Creek United Methodist Church, 437 NW Second St.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne D. Turner; son, Chris Turner and wife Lynnette of Ramona, Calif.; daughter, DeeAnn Mangin and husband Al of Bedford, Texas; son, Brian Turner and wife Peg of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; son, David Turner of San Diego, Calif.; and son, Brad Turner and wife Desiree of Moss Beach, Calif. Also surviving is a brother, Gene Turner of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Sharon Turner of Chicago and Shirley Pippert of Vinton; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Del, born the sixth child of eight to Ed and Vera Turner in 1933, graduated from Garrison High School in 1951 and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids. In 1953, Del enlisted in the Navy, following his family's history of military service. Del married Yvonne Healy, his longtime love, on Aug. 12, 1956, in Duarte, Calif. Eventually, his duties in the Navy moved the family to San Diego, where he retired in 1973. After retire-ment from the Navy, Del continued his career with Honeywell, and then in 1991, he officially retired with Yvonne in Myrtle Creek, where he enjoyed the beautiful natural surroundings and raising his prized Sardinian miniature donkeys. Del was an active member of the Myrtle Creek Methodist Church and lifetime member of the American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Del's name to the Myrtle Creek United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
