DOROTHY M. SWEETING Riverside Dorothy M. Sweeting, 88, of Riverside, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Parkview Manor in Wellman. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Following the committal services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at the funeral home in Dorothy's name. Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside is caring for Dorothy's arrangements and her family. Dorothy Maxine Stransky was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin and Victoria (Kiefer) Stransky. She was the valedictorian of the 1947 Class at St. Mary's High School. On Nov. 20, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Byron Sweeting at St. Mary's Church in Riverside. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Southside Country Club and was a Ladies Circle leader. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, freezing, baking, cooking, dancing, traveling, going to casinos, teaching her grandchildren to sew, attending her children and grandchildren sporting events at school, and hosting the family Christmas until she was 85. But most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her family. Dorothy was the wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of 108 family members. She will be deeply missed by them, including her husband of 69 years, Byron of Riverside; her children, Jerry (Marge) Sweeting of Riverside, Ron Sweeting and special friend, Kathleen Sadler, of Iowa City, Keith (Penelope) Sweeting of Riverside, Carol (Kevin) Kidwell of Solon, Connie (Doug) Shalla of Kalona, Judy (Rick) Gerot of Ainsworth and Art (Shari) Sweeting of Riverside; 26 grandchildren, Brent (Brin) Sweeting, Jeremy (Lora) Sweeting, Dan Sweeting and special friend, Ashley Keasling, Betsy Sweeting, Brook Sweeting, Amanda (Scott) Yeggy, Ben (Shelly) Sweeting, Tony (Angie) Sweeting, Jennifer (Jason) Schlabaugh, Heather (Gregory) Koch, Matthew (Courtney) Kidwell, Lindsey (Travis) Meade, Kelsey (Patrick) Swancutt, Heidi (Luke) Miller, Nicholas (Jayna) Shalla, Jason Shalla and special friend, Beth Morris, Stefaney (Justin) Lawrence, Courtney Shalla, Ryan Gerot, Tyler (Nikki) Gerot, Brittany (Rob) Redlinger, Amy (Henry) Vazquez, Tina Milder, Anna (Brent) Schneider and Haley Sweeting; and 51 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandson, Augustine Wyatt Koch; one brother, Duane "Bud" Stransky; and three sisters, Patricia Kron, Elaine Frank and Rita DeCamp.
