LeHew, Flo Marie
Flo Marie LeHew, 71, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by a celebration of her life on Saturday, Sept. 11, starting at 10 a.m., with lunch immediately following service. Family and friends are welcome. Both services are at the Church of the King, 3750 F Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids.
Flo was born Feb. 2, 1939, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Vee Dryer. She married Philip LeHew on April 26, 1986. They embarked on 24 years of love and friendship. Flo spent many years as a stay-at-home mom, bookkeeper, and real estate agent before her retirement.
Flo “Nanny” was a treasure to us and was the rock of the family. If you knew her, you would have been a better person for having your lives cross paths. Her family was everything to her and she was everything to all of us. She was a woman of honor and integrity and there wasn't a time that she wouldn't try to guide her family, and even strangers, to follow the right path; always opening her door to those in need.
In addition to spending time with her family, she loved to read her Bible and Christian books, work in her garden, sew, travel, cook, watch her grandchildren, and she had to have her daily intake of sodas.
Flo is survived by her husband, Philip; her children, Johnny DeMuth and fiancee (Carrie Kula), Joen and (Bob) Lane and Jill McDonald; stepchildren, Erin and (Gary) Lindsey and Barry and (Jaimen) LeHew; daughter-in-law, Jody LeHew and fiance (Max Link); sisters, Dee Kincade, Joanne and (Bernie) Aulwes, and Kay (Ron) Johnson; brothers, Sonny (Delores) Dryer and Denny (Dolly) Dryer; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Jr. (Geraldine) LeHew, James LeHew, Robert LeHew, Rich (Krisan) LeHew and Tom (Lynn) LeHew; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Hemphill, Kathy (Steven) Brown, Rose (Ralph) Walters and Alice LeHew; grandchildren, Nichole and (Jim) Roos, Matthew DeMuth, Rachel DeMuth, Chad Hawkins, Jeff Hawkins, Natalie McDonald, Hannah McDonald, Abigail McDonald, Lauren Mason, Zachary Mason, Easter Lindsay, Faith Lindsey, Seth Lindsey and Noah-Christian Lindsay; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Christopher, Adam, Derek, soon-to-be Jeremiah, and many more.
Flo was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Dryer; brother, Vincent Dryer; brother-in-law, Bill Kincade; stepson, Casey LeHew; nephew, Brian Kincade; mother-in-law, Mary LeHew; father-in-law, Kenny LeHew; and grandfather, Ray LeHew.
Even in death, Flo continued to give, as she was an organ donor. She will be so greatly missed.
Memorials can be made to Philip LeHew at 4210 M Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405.
