Long, Wilford D.
Wilford D. Long, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died July 12, 2012, at Summit Pointe in Marion following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his children, Jean Porter and husband Jeff of Dallas, Texas and Thomas Long and wife Diane of Cedar Rapids; his grandson, Brendon Long, also of Cedar Rapids; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Scott Long of Cresco.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betsy; his son, Martin; as well as one brother and one sister.
Wilford was born July 27, 1922, in Belle Plaine. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from Drake University, with a degree in accounting and began a career that spanned 38 years as an accountant at Iowa Electric. He was united in marriage to Betsy Joan Paulas on Dec. 7, 1944, in Mason City. She preceded him in death in 2005.
Wilford will be remembered for his charitable spirit. His greatest enjoyment was time spent with his beloved family.
