Weers, Gerald
Gerald Weers, 80, of Marion, died peacefully Monday evening, April 30, 2012, in Cannon Falls, Minn., surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello, with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. Pastor Ellery Dykeman will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving is his wife, Judy; his daughter, Julie (Ken) Brown of Cannon Falls, Minn.; his two sons, Jeff (Kris) Weers of Scotch Grove, and Jim (Annemarie) Weers of Olin; his sister, Elverna Arduser of Monticello; six grandchildren, David (Sara) Brown of Bloomington, Minn., Mikinzie (Britt) Smith of Monticello, Drew Brown of Minneapolis, Minn., Megan Brown of White Bear Lake, Minn., Tyler (Stephanie) Weers of Iowa City, and Ryley Weers of Olin; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Smith of Monticello and Gretta Brown of Bloomington, Minn.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald John Weers was born, July 26, 1931, at the family farm in Scotch Grove, Iowa. He was the son of John Henry and Louise Catherine Dirks Weers. Gerald attended Monticello Schools. Gerald married Judith Weighels on Feb. 6, 1955 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello. The couple farmed for many years until Gerald retired due to health reasons, and he and Judy moved to Marion. During his years as a farmer, he also worked as a cattle buyer for Kirkwood and worked in trucking, hauling livestock.
Gerald was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. He loved horses, his Scottie “Barney”, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. Above all, Gerald loved to spend time with his wife and family.
He will be greatly missed by those closest to him.
