Robert Leo Brown, 73, of Marion, died Aug. 7, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, with a Scripture service at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion, with Father Brian Dellaert officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Robert was born July 16, 1942, to parents Leo Brown and Monica (Schilling) in Dubuque, Iowa. He was married to Carol Duehr on Sept. 29, 1962, in Dubuque. For most of his life he worked as an insurance broker.
An outdoorsman, Robert loved deer hunting as well as fishing. During football season, he was always found rooting for his favorite team, the Packers. Other times, he would be found playing either euchre or poker with his friends and family. When it was time to unwind, Robert loved to watch a good western movie.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bev Steil.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; son, Jeff (Crystal) Brown, and his daughter, Jenny Heeren (Tim Seegmiller), both of Marion; his grandchildren, Amanda Heeren, Cody Koehn and Samantha Koehn; his brother, Bill Brown of Bettendorf; and dog, Angel.
The family would like to extend a thank-you to the nurses (Sheena, the day nurse, and Chelsey, the night nurse) in the SNICU at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; Dr. Grosbach, the chief resident neurosurgeon; and all of the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.
