Larry Dean Brown, 81,
of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center surrounded
by his loving family. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Larry was born Sept. 3, 1937, in Washington County, Iowa, to Melva Marie Buchine and Frank Calven Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Shelby Hiser.
He is survived by his daughters, Laurie McConaughy (Reg Berland), Deanna McLaud (Jeff) and Darcy Brown; and his son, Edward Brown (Trina). Larry is also survived by his grandchildren, Kaleb, Tiernan, Kera, Kristina, Rhys, Nash, Jonah and Lindsey; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Logan and Kadance.
Larry studied hairstyling in Los Angeles and graduated from Cedar Rapids Barber College. Larry received two stylist of the year awards. Larry owned and operated Mr. Larry's House of Style, the first unisex hair salon in Cedar Rapids. He drove a semi for CRST and was an ironworker.
Larry lived a full life. He spent many years at the Ellis boat harbor with his family and friends. Larry was a member of the local iron workers union and was a longtime member of the Cedar Boat Club and of the Iowa parachute team and Jump Masters Inc., where he logged over 2,000 jumps. He was also a member of Izaak Walton League.
Larry will be deeply missed.
