Mary Annette Henry, 79, longtime resident of the Iowa City area, died suddenly at her home on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016. Memorial Masses will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, where there will be a time of visitation one hour before the services and a reception following. A second Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, where there will be a time of visitation from 9 a.m. until services. Following Mass, burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cascade. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web at www.gayandciha.com.
Mary was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa. Growing up in Cascade, she attended schools there, graduating from St. Martin's High School in 1955. She then attended and graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1958. She moved to the Iowa City area in 1958, beginning a nursing career that would span over 40 years with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. In Iowa City, Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a longtime volunteer with Iowa City Hospice and at Mercy Hospital. She enjoyed playing bridge, Scrabble, traveling, her dogs, but most of all she loved her family!
Her family includes her siblings, Mike and Patt Henry of Cascade, Jane Klisares of Iowa City and Charles Henry of California; sister-in-law, Sandy Henry of Dubuque; her niece, who was more like her daughter, Shelly Strolberg and her family, husband, Eric and their two children, Makenna and Carly; and nieces and nephews, children of Jane, John and Charles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Alberta (McDermott) Henry; two brothers, John and Thomas Henry; and her nephew, Kevin Henry.
