911 audio released in murder-suicide involving Waterloo radiologist

Audio of a 911 call shows an Iowa man asking a dispatcher to quickly send police to defuse an argument between his girlfriend and her jealous ex-boyfriend before both were killed outside his home in a murder-suicide.

The Buchanan County Attorney's Office released audio of the March 21 call made by Chase Weber of Jesup. The office said authorities concluded their investigation into the deaths of 22-year-old Lindsay Nichols and her ex-boyfriend, Texas radiologist Timothy Roses, who had been working at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Authorities say Roses and Nichols broke up, and Nichols started dating Weber. They say Roses followed Nichols to Weber's home March 21 and pulled a gun during an argument.

Weber saw the commotion outside his home and called 911. He asked a dispatcher to hurry and screamed "oh my god!" after Roses shot Nichols.

Also Wednesday, a prosecutor says the gun used in the murder-suicide was sold illegally, and he wants federal criminal charges brought against the seller.

Buchanan County Attorney Shawn Harden said Wednesday that Roses purchased a 9-millimeter handgun two years ago from a work colleague in Waterloo.

Harden said the sale was illegal because Roses did not have a permit to acquire a gun in Iowa.

Harden says the seller, who he did not identify, is devastated by what happened and it will be up to federal prosecutors to determine whether to bring charges.
