Utech, Craig L.
Craig L. Utech, 51, died suddenly Sunday, March 3, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
A memorial service to celebrate Craig's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the Craig Utech Educational Fund has been established for Craig and Jane's daughter, Anna.
Craig was born Jan. 13, 1962, in Sioux City, the son of Clinton and Frances Bretthauer Utech. He was a 1980 graduate of Sioux City North High School. Craig received his associate degree as a registered nurse from Butler Community College in Wichita, Kan. In 2000, he received his BSN from Iowa Wesleyan College.
Craig married Jane Boes on June 1, 1985, in Breda, Iowa. Craig and Jane moved to Iowa City in 1989 from Wichita, Kan.
Craig was a nurse at Veterans Administration Medical Center. Prior to that Craig was a nurse at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for many years. He was a member of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates.
He was an antique collector and enjoyed target shooting, camping, scuba diving, and fishing. Craig especially cherished the travels with Jane and Anna to the Cayman Islands, Mexico, and other destinations.
Survivors include his loving wife, Jane, and their daughter, Anna, of Tiffin; his parents, Clinton and Frances Utech of Sioux City; four siblings, Stewart (Julie) Utech of Sioux City, Scott (Cindy) Utech of Bellevue, Neb., Anita Utech of Sioux City, and Brett (Lisa) Utech of Columbus, Neb.; his in-laws, Earl and Alice Boes of Carroll; brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil (Jamie) Boes of Lakewood Colo., Mark (Jackie) Boes of Owasso, Okla., and Dale (Lisa) Boes of Breda, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Molly, Morgan, Lauren, Camden, Melissa, Corey, Haylee, Kyle, Alyson, Lindsay, Jordan, Isabelle, and Hayley; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
