MARLYS BRUNSTING
Cedar Rapids
Marlys Ann Brunsting passed away Sept. 22, 2015, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Marlys was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., but moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at a young age. She attended the University of Iowa, where she took up fencing, met her husband, and received her bachelor's degree with a double major in economics and applied mathematics.
She worked for a number of years at the University of Iowa before returning to school and receiving her master's degree in library and information science. She and her family then moved to Green Bay, Wis., where she worked as coordinator of library automation at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. In 2013, Marlys accepted the position of library director and campus copyright officer at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. She retired in September 2015 and was honored by being named director emeritus in recognition of the significant positive impact she had in the two short years she was there.
Marlys loved scrapbooking, playing the piano, reading, going for walks, traveling (but only for short periods at a time) and quilting. She even tolerated golfing with her husband. But most of all, Marlys cherished spending quality time with family and friends.
Marlys is survived by her husband, Larry Segriff; two daughters, Megan Reyes and Caitlin Collins, and their spouses, Christopher Reyes and Katie Collins; her father, Edward Brunsting; three brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Green Bay, Wis.
The family requests donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in lieu of flowers.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the nurses and staff at St. Croix Hospice, who brought great comfort in an unimaginably difficult time.
