While recently working west of Hiawatha, I had the misfortune of witnessing a deer/vehicle collision which left a deer struggling in the ditch. After several minutes of watching this severely injured animal attempting to flee, I decided to summon the Linn County Sheriff's Office. A couple minutes later, a deputy arrived and, after assessing the situation, dispatched this wounded animal.
My thanks to the sheriff's office for the professionalism displayed. It's another testimony as to the many jobs our law enforcement agencies do. Further suffering for this animal, as well as the potential of the deer regaining access to the highway and creating yet another accident, were avoided. Thanks again to all of our first responders.
