William "Bill" Ford, 83, of Fairfax, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Kent (Carol) Ford, Karen (Darin) Secrist and Laurie (Patrick) Riehle; grandchildren, Amber and Kaitlyn Ford, Daniel (Trenda) and Dustin Secrist and Ryan, Alyssa, Bryanna, Austyn and Jayson Riehle; great-grandson, Dakota Secrist; siblings, Marvin (Frances) and Maurice (Jan) Ford; and many extended family and friends.
William Dean Ford was born June 16, 1935, in Davenport, to Ralph and Edith (Langley) Ford. He attended Mechanicsville High School, graduating in 1954. Bill married Marlene Mallie on June 24, 1956, at the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, where they were active members. He joined the Army in 1957, serving until 1963. Bill worked as an auto body and engine mechanic as well as a truck driver for most of his life, most recently driving for Walmart. He was proud to have driven until retiring in his 70s. Bill also held a realtor's license and owned his own bar. He enjoyed driving trucks, traveling, seeing new places and woodworking. Bill especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlene; nephew, Mike Ford; and several close friends, including his high school buddy, Leroy Wendt.
