Myers, Kenny
Kenny Myers, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, in his home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Emily Haight of Hospice of Mercy officiating. Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Mondayy at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margot; his children, Robert Myers of Anamosa, Christy Schmitt and husband Eberhard of Cedar Falls, Ricky Myers and wife Vicky of Cedar Rapids, and Kathy Button and husband David of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Summer Myers, Ansara Kula, Shannon Bohnsack, Christopher Myers, Veriah Kula, Matthew Myers, Erika Myers, Shane Button and Dustin Myers; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Patty (Johnny) Derringer of Cedar Rapids, Bonnie (Robert) Kirkland of Moline, and Dixie (Ron) Gilson of Cedar Rapids; and his brother, Jerry (Nell) Myers of Mississippi.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Zola Myers; his brothers, Buddy, Don and Bobby; and his sister, Jeanie Morrison.
He was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Milford and Zola (Carney) Myers. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II, from 1945 to 1948. He was united in marriage to Margot Rosenbauer on Oct. 14, 1947, in West Germany. He worked for several years as a process controller at Rockwell Collins.
Kenny was an avid golfer and throughout his golfing career had four holes in one. He was also involved with the Rockwell Bowling League. He enjoyed playing cards, working in his yard and travel. The highlights of his travel were his trip to the Holy Land, and winters in Myrtle Beach. Above all, his greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family.
He will forever be remembered for his happy and friendly personality. He was able to talk and make friends with anyone, and was often remembered to say he “never met a person he didn't like.”
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Nancy and Nicole and the entire Staff of Hospice of Mercy. The family also wishes to thank Shannon Bohnsack for her continued ability to make Kenny smile and for the loving care she provided through the last six month journey of Kenny's life.
Memorial donations in Kenny's honor may be made to Hospice of Mercy.
