Bading, Donald E.
Donald E. Bading, 76, formerly of Hiawatha, died at home in Acton, Calif., on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at the church after 9 a.m. Friday. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include his children, Chris Bading of Cedar Rapids, Michele (Keith) Heckenliable of Acton, Calif., and Diane (Paul) Gilson of Rockton, Ill.; brother, Richard Bading of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Hollie, Karlie, Taylor and Emilie Heckenliable, Alyssa Bading and Evan Gilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Betty.
Donald was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Monticello, to Joseph and Staza Hogan Bading. He married Betty Jean Hinton on May 7, 1955, in Cedar Rapids. Don retired after 36 years from Rockwell Collins. Don was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Donald was not only a one-of-a-kind father but a wonderful grandfather as well. He was a devoted grandfather and his grandchildren and children meant the world to him. He loved to eat candy and sneak it to all the grandkids; he would have given the shirt off his back for anyone.
Donald was a very hard worker especially when it came to pushing the button on the slot machines and the TV remote. Don had a heart of gold and loved to joke around with people. He brought a smile to so many faces. He was the Iowa Hawkeyes No. 1 fan and the grandkids are pulling for them to make it to the Rose Bowl just for Papa.
Don will be incredibly missed by all those who loved him.
Memorials may be directed to St. Pius X Catholic Church.
