Dick Louvar, Dick Louvar
Dick Louvar, 72, of Hinckley, Minn., died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2009, in his home. He was born April 4, 1937, in Howard County, Iowa, to Wesley and Lillie (Horstman) Louvar. He was raised and educated in Cedar Rapids. Following high school, he served five years in the United States Air Force. He continued on to graduate from the University of Iowa. He was the recreation supervisor at the Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, Minn.
Dick had many interests in life after retirement and was especially talented at woodworking; each grandchild was fortunate enough to have a special present each Christmas. Always there with a warm smile and kind words, he gave of himself and enjoyed volunteering his time. He loved road trips and visiting family, especially his grandchildren. He is already missed by his family and many dear friends.
A devoted husband and loving father, Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean (Dull) of Hinckley; and children, Andrew (Jackie Hancock) of Cottage Grove, Minn., Jennifer (Eric Whiteley) of Chatham, Mass., Sarah (Josh Peters) of Port Townsend, Wash., Daniel (Christine Hartmann) of Fargo, N.D., and Christopher of Little Rock, Ark.; as well as his 11 grandchildren; his mother, Lillie of Cedar Rapids; and brothers, Bob (Mildred Miller) of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Sandy Martinec) of Owasso, Okla., and Alan (Holly Gensicke) of Temecula, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hinkley, at 10 a.m. Friday.
Condolences may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 428, 317 Fire Monument Rd., Hinckley, MN 55037.
Arrangements made by Tatting-Methven Funeral Home, Hinckley.
