DES MOINES - JoAnn Johnson of Panora, superintendent of the Iowa Division of Credit Unions, announced this week that she would be retiring effective May 30.
The Iowa Division of Credit Unions safeguards the interests of credit union depositors and shareholders through the effective administration and execution of the laws relating to credit unions.
'JoAnn has been a tremendous asset to Iowa credit unions and their over one million members,” said Gov. Terry Branstad, who named Johnson to the post in February 2011. 'She has used her expertise at the national level to provide a safe regulatory climate for credit unions to operate and succeed. I wish her all the best as she spends more time with her family.”
A former state legislator, Johnson was elected to the Iowa Senate in 1994. She was appointed to the National Credit Union Administration in 2002 and served as chairwoman of the agency from 2004-08, overseeing a $150 million budget and an agency staff of 950.
