Pettit, Edward L.
Edward L. Pettit, 71, of North Liberty, died at his home Friday, July 5, 2013.
Edward Leroy Pettit was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Edward and Josephine (Behles) Pettit. He had lived in this area all of his life: Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Ainsworth and North Liberty. Ed worked for most of his life in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator and some years in the restaurant industry. Employers included: Coralville Excavating, Bowman Construction, Iowa City Excavating, Frantz Construction companies, Roberts Dairy and The Carousel restaurant. He retired in 2005 after over 50 years of hard labor yet continued to work part time up until the fall of 2012. Ed enjoyed traveling, cars, music, photography and most importantly he loved spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City.
His family includes his children, Dennis Pettit (Lisa Stultz) of Iowa City, Russell Jarvis (Colleen) of Cedar Rapids and Steve Jarvis (Suzi) of Sebree, Ky.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his siblings, Don Pettit (Evelyn) of Waterloo, Cliff Pettit of Iowa City, Tom Pettit of North Liberty, Ken Pettit of North Liberty and Jenny Mitchell of Iowa City; and sister-in-law, Judy Pettit of Iowa City.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Emmett Miles Pettit and Joseph Dewayne Pettit.
Funeral services will be held at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City on Friday, July 12, with the Rev. Brent Hartwig officiating. The church will host a public visitation on Friday starting at 9 a.m. Services will begin at 10:3 0.a.m with the burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Iowa City Hospice or American Cancer Society.
